wednesday 20th november
we drove through france into switzerland as the mountains shrank and the colours of autumn reappeared. it felt like we were leaving winter behind. we drove through the goods to declare channel by mistake and i was in geneva when i should have been at work. yep. typical roadtrip.

tuesday 19th november
the first thing i did when i woke up was put my mini-dv camera on my right hand and point it through the condensation soaked window to see what kind of day it was. i played the tape back and leapt out of bed. days are rarely this good.

'it's a good day for boarding. blue sky.' said funky as he ate breakfast in front of a glacier. i can't explain the rest of it all. we sat literally on top of the world on thick fresh powder snow with clouds beneath us in silence. our muscles were buzzing and tired, our noses red from the air, lips dry from the sunlight. i turned my head 180 degrees, trying to ingest the panorama i was seeing, ending up looking at funky who looked up, narrowing his eyes through his orange lenses. '...nothing between us and the heavens...' he said, verbalising his thoughts. in the smallest, simplest sentence he summarised the whole day perfectly.

monday 18th november
roclette. funky's first day.

sunday 17th november
chas and shez babysat me while funky finished his first aid course. the last two pictures are of the lodge's old and new fridges.

saturday 16th november
a white out which means fewer runs. james spotted my bindings were far too forward.

friday 15th november
funky was already on london bridge's platform 5 at 9.15 and there was enough time to catch london's sunlight then an overcast gatwick. by geneva dusk had come and gone so we drove the mercedes across the border and into the alps, stopping once for all the things a petrol station can offer. as we snaked up to tignes we turned a corner near le lac and caught the awe inspiting floodlit glacier.

i didn't know what to expect at the dragon lodge. the welcome was warm and beery. it seems like a dragon lodge rule that the residents take the new arrivals out on their first night. tonight it was us and pizza and crowded house and the blue girl. just.

oh, and happy birthday jenniebean.
